Reinier van Leeuwen: Efficiency & Quality at DROMEC

Reinier van Leeuwen, the driving force in the technical workshop with a focus on efficiency and quality, while keeping an eye on his team!
“At DROMEC, you can feel an atmosphere of calm, where people can rely on each other. That makes our work enjoyable because it revolves around precision, speed, and reliability.” As the technical workshop manager, Reinier leads a team of about twelve professionals who build winches and provide service both in the workshop and on-site. His mission? “Ensuring that processes run smoothly and the quality of our winches remains guaranteed.”
From technical issue resolution to strategy
“I used to be on-site myself, solving technical failures. That hands-on experience now helps me think ahead and make smart decisions. My focus is on planning, process optimization, and teamwork. I also try to align with the strategic choices made in sales and engineering. We only install winches on-site when absolutely necessary because our systems are designed for customers to install them independently.”
Series production or smart technology
“We create intelligent solutions for our customers with our winches. I take great pleasure in serial production, but also in high-tech projects where multiple winches must operate synchronously. That is the area in the workshop where we, as a team, are becoming increasingly efficient. Our spooling machines are another great example—DROMEC has now developed and built an entire range of them.”
Innovation through practical offshore experience
Reinier shares: “A great example of a service operation was an offshore project where we had to modify three winches due to motor play. Not only did we resolve the issue effectively and professionally, but we also immediately incorporated the improvements into the next production series.”
“The 15T winch systems we build for this project are essential for lifting platforms at sea. Two electric motors with dual brake motors and fail-safe brakes ensure maximum safety and reliability. Thanks to the Lebus groove, the cable stays perfectly wound, and even in the event of a motor failure, the system remains operational.”
Performance
At DROMEC, we work enthusiastically every day on process optimization. Reinier: “I truly see it as an achievement that, alongside complex projects and major clients, we are also able to deliver small winches quickly to, for example, a shipowner! That is the real challenge—every single day!”
